Foreign Licence Holders

Reduced EDT and Foreign Driving Licences in Ireland

If you hold a foreign driving licence and have moved to Ireland, your next step depends on where your licence was issued, whether it can be exchanged, whether you need an Irish learner permit and whether you qualify for Reduced EDT.

Some foreign licence holders who cannot exchange their licence in Ireland may be eligible for Reduced EDT. This can reduce the normal EDT requirement from 12 lessons to 6 lessons and may remove the usual 6-month wait before sitting a driving test.

Airport Driving School can help with the driving lesson and test preparation side. Licence exchange, eligibility and official approval must be checked with NDLS and RSA.

Step 1: Check Licence Route Find out if your foreign licence can be exchanged or if you need to apply for an Irish learner permit.
Step 2: Ask About Reduced EDT If eligible, Reduced EDT may mean 6 EDT lessons instead of 12.
Step 3: Prepare for Irish Roads Lessons help you adjust to Irish road rules, test standards and safer driving habits.

Always check official NDLS and RSA requirements for your licence before relying on any driving lesson plan.
